Sophomore claimed her second title of the season and fourth of her career

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga sophomore Emma de Groot has been named the Southern Conference women’s golfer of the week for all competition from March 4-10.

de Groot shot three rounds of par or better to capture the championship at the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. The sophomore from Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia, shot a season-best 69 in the final round to overcome a two-stroke deficit. As a team, Chattanooga also claimed the team title with a two-over par 866, including a record five-under par 283 in the final round.

The golfer of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s golf sports information directors.

Other top performers this week were Western Carolina’s Blaire Minter, Wofford’s Alex Rankin and The Citadel’s Alanna-Jean Keith.
