Lady Mocs, de Groot Claim Second Win of the Year
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.---A record setting five-under par round of 283 propelled the Chattanooga women’s golf team to the championship at the inaugural JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational Tuesday at Eagle Landing Country Club. It was a dominating performance as the Lady Mocs led wire-to-wire finishing with a 54-hole total of two-over par 866.
UTC’s 283 broke the previous school record of 288 set last season and this one at the Chris Banister Classic. The round was powered by sophomore Emma de Groot who fired three par or better rounds to win medalist honors by four shots over East Carolina’s Ana Maria Puche.
de Groot shot rounds of 72, 71 and 69 to finish at four-under par 212. Her final round 69 is her low round of the year in claiming her second win this season, fourth career.
Two Lady Mocs freshmen finished in the top as Moa Duf finished in fifth and Maria Juliana Loza sixth. Duf, in just her second collegiate event, finished with a two-over par score of 218 with a final round 71 (-1).
Maju Loza matched Duf with a 71 of her own today to shoot 219, three-over par. She posted two par or better rounds for the event which doubles her total for the season entering the event. The 71 is season-low round.
Maria Salinas struggled with a final round 78 (+6) to finish at 223 (+7), tied for 13th. Christine Wolf tied for 31st at 229 (+13) shooting 72 (E) over the final 18. Her even-par round is her best score since shooting 71 in the final round of the Chris Banister Classic in Sept.
The Lady Mocs (866) won by 13 shots over its nearest competitor, East Carolina at 879. South Florida finished third at 889, 23 shots off the pace. SoCon rivals Elon and UNC Greensboro finished sixth and 11th. Elon completed its tournament at 909 (+45), while UNCG shot 923 (+59).
The win is the sixth in 16 tournaments in the program’s one-plus seasons. Next up for the Lady Mocs is the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas March 20-22.
UNCG finishes 11th at JMU Eagle Landing Invite
ORANGE PARK, FL ? UNC Greensboro carded a final round 290 to move up to 11th place to close out the JMU Eagle Landing Invite women’s golf tournament Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans got a final round 69 from Annelie Weimenhog to move up to a tie for 45th place. Sofia Aidemark was UNCG’s top finisher, tying for 19th place at 227 after a final round 76. Lauren Smith also had a strong final round, carding an even-par 72.
Chattanooga won the team title with a score of 866, 13 shots better than East Carolina. South Florida was third at 899. UNCG finished at 923.
UNCG returns to action on March 23 when they begin play at the Lady Seahawk Classic.

Mills Lifts Elon to Sixth at Eagle Landing Invitational
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ? Danielle Mills forged a four-under-par 68 in third-round action as Elon moved up from 10th place after two rounds to a sixth-place finish in the 15-team field at the two-day inaugural Eagle Landing Invitational women’s golf tournament Tuesday afternoon on the 6,282-yard Eagle Landing Country Club course.
Mills (79-75-68?222) finished in a tie for 10th place in the 81-golfer event. Frederique Bruell (Tied-19th place/75-77-75?227), Tara McFadden (Tied-19th place/81-73-73?227), Virginia Mayer (Tied-45th place/82-77-74?233) and Lauren Lebak (70th place/83-82-80?245) also turned in scorecards for the Phoenix (317-302-290?909).
