SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina track athlete Felicia Paulding and Appalachian State field athlete Danielle Thorpe have been named this week’s Southern Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for all meets from Jan. 29-Feb. 4, the league office announced Thursday. The athletes of the week are selected by the league’s track and field head coaches.
Paulding won the collegiate 60-meter race at the Niswonger Invitational with a time of 7.68 this past weekend. The sophomore also competed in the 200-meter and the 4x400-meter relay team races. Her 60 time as well as her times of 24.68 in the 200 and 3:47.46 in the 4x400 all lead the SoCon.
Thorpe won the Niswonger Invitational triple jump this past weekend with a leap of 41-0, just missing NCAA qualifying by six inches. She also placed fourth in the long jump at 18-3.
Also nominated for this week’s award were Appalachian State track athlete Ashley McKiver, Samford track athletes Morgan Tyler and Hillary Neal and College of Charleston field athlete Emily Smith.
