SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Davidson’s Stephen Curry has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games January 27-February 2 the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 3). Curry helped the Wildcats earn victories last week over Chattanooga (92-70), Samford (55-52) and Western Carolina (89-65). He averaged 26.0 points, 6.7 assists and 5.0 rebounds. It is the seventh time this season he has won the award, setting a new single-season record since the award was created in 1968. The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s basketball sports information directors.
The junior scored a game-high 32 points in Davidson’s win on the road at Chattanooga last Wednesday. He tallied 20 points at Samford before scoring 26 points at home against Western Carolina Monday night. Curry has scored at least 30 points 26 times in his career, including 11 games this season. He leads the league in scoring (28.9 ppg), assists (6.5 apg) and steals (2.9 spg). Curry has moved into 14th place on the NCAA’s Division I career made three-pointers list (369).
Davidson (19-3, 12-0 SoCon) visits UNC Greensboro Thursday night. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State’s Donald Sims, Chattanooga’s Stephen McDowell, The Citadel’s Demetrius Nelson, Elon’s Ola Atoyebi, Western Carolina’s Brandon Giles and Wofford’s Noah Dahlman.
