Hollinquest averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds to pace first-place squad

 

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga junior forward Shanara Hollinquest has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games from January 27 ? February 2.

 

Hollinquest averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds last week while leading UTC to SoCon road victories over UNC Greensboro (58-48) and Elon (82-56) last week. The junior scored 16 points to go along with eight rebounds against UNC Greensboro on Saturday, and against Elon on Monday evening, she recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds. The two victories allowed Chattanooga to maintain its hold on first place in the league standings with a 13-1 SoCon mark.

 

The Sylacauga, Ala., native leads the conference is scoring at 17.0 points per contest and in field goal percentage at 54.8 percent (138-of-252), and her 8.2 rebounds per game place her second overall.

 

The award is Hollinquest’s fourth such honor of the season.

 

The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s basketball sports information directors.

 

Other top performers during the week were Appalachian State’s Brittany Mixon, Wofford’s Maddie Helms, Davidson’s Mercedes Robinson, UNC Greensboro’s Gini Grimsley, College of Charleston’s Tonia Gerty, Georgia Southern’s Ashley Melson, Samford’s Savannah Hill and Elon’s Courtney Medley.
