UNC Greensboro Cancels Spartan Classic
GREENSBORO, NC - The UNCG Spartan Classic has been wiped out by rain, UNCG coach Jennifer Herzig announced Saturday. Saturday's and Sunday's games have been cancelled and will not be made up.
Inclement weather played havoc with the entire tournament schedule, as Friday's games were pushed back several hours and Saturday's contests were rescheduled before eventually being cancelled.
Those who purchased single-game Spartan All Access packages for Saturday's games can contact UNCG Sports Information Director Mike Hirschman about refunds at mwhirsch@uncg.edu.
UNCG is back in action on March 7 when it kicks off Southern Conference play at Western Carolina with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. The Spartans and Catamounts will wrap up the three-game series on March 8 at 1 p.m.
Chattanooga
Cancels Remainder of Frost Classic
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Due to persistent rains in the Chattanooga area and the chance for precipitation on Sunday, the remainder of the 2009 Frost Classic has been cancelled.
After further inspection of all the fields, the tournament committee felt it was in the best interest of the student-athletes to discontinue play.
The Lady Mocs (7-11) will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 7 in its Southern Conference opener against Furman. The double-header is schedule to begin at 1 p.m. from Jim Frost Stadium.
College of Charleston Games on Hold
RALEIGH, N.C. ? As of 10:45 a.m. this morning, Saturday, February 28, 2009, the North Carolina State Wolfpack Challenge has been put on hold due to persistent rain in the greater Raleigh area.
The directors of the tournament have announced in a release that the next determination of today’s schedule of games, which includes a pair of games for the College of Charleston softball team, will be made at 6:00 p.m. EST.

Furman Saturday Games Versus Charlotte Postponed
Greenville, S.C. -- Furman’s softball doubleheader against the Charlotte 49ers, scheduled for noon on Saturday in Charlotte, N.C., has been called off due to heavy rains that are expected to continue throughout the day tomorrow.
No makeup date has been set at the time of the cancellation.
Furman , 3-7 on the season, returns home to host the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Wednesday in a doubleheader at Pepsi Stadium. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
Elon Saturday Games Canceled
ELON, N.C. - Due to rain in the forecast, Saturday’s softball games in the Golden Corral Classic have been cancelled. No make-up games will be scheduled. Sunday’s games are to proceed as scheduled, when the Phoenix host Bucknell and Kent State.

Samford Revises Schedule
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Participating coaches of the Magic City Classic have released a revised schedule of games due to the rain-out of Friday’s action. Previously set to be played at Spain Park High School, the three-day tournament will begin play Saturday morning at the Shea Softball Complex, home of the Birmingham Thunderbolts.
The complex, which is located in Irondale, features two fields with 100 percent FieldTurf surfaces that drain up to 18 inches of rain per hour and 200-foot fences. No pets, tobacco products, gum, sunflowers seeds, peanuts, bikes, skateboards or scooters are allowed on the property.
Samford will begin play at 10 a.m. Saturday morning on Field Two against Pittsburg. It will then take on Michigan State and Northern Illinois in doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Both games will be played on Field One.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs will play one game on Field Two. They will take on Alabama State at 1 p.m.
