SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Samford distance runner Blaise Carie and The Citadel long jumper Kevin Hardy were named Southern Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for all meets Feb. 19-25, the league office announced Thursday. The awards are voted on by the conference’s indoor track and field head coaches.
Carie took third in the 3,000-meter run at the Tiger Invitational this past weekend in Clemson, S.C., in a time of 8:45.89. The time qualified him for the fast section of the 3,000 at the SoCon Track and Field Championships this weekend. At the Tiger Invitational, the sophomore also ran the mile in 4:23, placing fifth overall.
Hardy won the long jump at the Tiger Invitational with a jump of 22-9?. The jump moved the senior into fifth place in the SoCon and is the sixth-best indoor long jump in Bulldog history.
Also nominated for this week’s track award was Davidson’s Peter Bruton.
Also nominated for this week’s field award was Samford’s Patrick Wells.
