Monique Floyd led UNCG to two SoCon victories on the week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? UNC Greensboro sophomore guard Monique Floyd has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games from February 17-23.
Floyd scored 15 points in the Spartans’ win over Furman on Saturday, hitting her first career 3-pointer in the process, and dishing out four assists. Against Appalachian State on Monday, Floyd scored 16 points, good for her third straight game in double figures. She also finished with five assists and four steals, both team highs. Floyd had a stellar shooting weekend, shooting 71.4 percent from the field and going 1-for-1 from beyond the arc. Floyd, who entered the weekend shooting 59.3 from the free throw line, was 10-for-12 from the free throw line in the two games (83.3 percent), including a perfect 8-for-8 against ASU.
With support from Floyd, the Spartans have won five of their last six games to improve to 12-16 overall and 9-10 in the Southern Conference
The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s basketball sports information directors.
Other top performers during the week were Western Carolina’s Lauren Powell, Davidson’s Ashley Lax, Elono’s Urysla Cotton, Samford’s Emily London, Georgia Southern’s Ashley Rivens, College of Charleston’s Jade Hughes, Chattanooga’s Jenaya Wade-Fray and Wofford’s Liz Miller.
