SPARTANBURG, SC ? Wofford College has announced the 2009 football schedule, which includes home games against SoCon-foes Appalachian State and Georgia Southern, along with road games against FBS opponents South Florida and Wisconsin.
The Terriers will open the season on the road at South Florida. The game will be played in Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the 2009 Super Bowl. The Bulls, a member of the Big East, were 8-5 in 2008 and defeated Memphis in the St. Pete Bowl.
Wofford opens the home slate on September 12 when Charleston Southern returns to Gibbs Stadium. Next, the Terriers will travel to Camp Randall Stadium (80,321) to face Wisconsin of the Big Ten. The Badgers were defeated by Florida State in the Champs Sports Bowl to conclude a 7-6 overall record.
Opening the Southern Conference season, the Terriers will travel to Chattanooga on September 26. For Homecoming, Wofford will host Georgia Southern on October 3. The open date on October 10 will be followed by a home game against defending Southern Conference Champion Appalachian State.
After a trip to Western Carolina on October 24, the Terriers host Elon on October 31. A trip to Charleston to face The Citadel is scheduled for November 7. The final home game is on November 14 as Samford makes its firs trip to Spartanburg as a member of the Southern Conference. The regular season concludes with a visit to Furman on November 21.
All dates and times are subject to change. A Southern Conference television schedule will be announced in early summer.
