Charlotte 6, Western Carolina 1
CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's tennis (1-3) fell 6-1 to visiting Charlotte (5-0) Friday at the Catamount Sports Complex.
Charlotte swept the doubles point and entered singles play with a 1-0 advantage. Western Carolina picked up a point at No. 3 singles when Ainhoa Iglesias defeated the 49ers Andrea Riveraers 6-4, 0-6, 11-9.
Western Carolina returns to action February 24 at Brevard. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
College of Charleston 6, Georgetown 1
ARLINGTON, Va. ? The College of Charleston women’s tennis team defeated Georgetown, 6-1 on Friday at the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 5-1 on the year, while Georgetown drops to 0-6 on the season.
After the Cougars picked up a team point by winning two of three doubles matches, Charleston won five of the six matches in singles to take the win.
Each of the five winners in singles won in straight sets, led in the number one spot by Link Leskosky, who defeated Allie Shea 6-2, 6-4 and Holly Dowse, who in the two spot had a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win over Michelle Brown.
The College of Charleston women’s tennis team returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 23rd when they visit Richmond. Action begins at 11 a.m.
Liberty 6, Appalachian State 1
BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's tennis was unable to come away with a win Friday afternoon at the Grandfather Mountain tennis courts, as the Apps fell to Liberty University 6-1.
The match got off to a rough start as the Flames swept through the doubles matches. At the number one doubles spot, the duo of Gisela Fernandze and Olivia Stannard were not able to keep pace with their opponent as they fell 8-1. Janke and Tomas also faced the same fate dropping to their competition 8-0, along with Amanda Cash and Lindsay King losing 8-4 at the number three singles position.
Tomas lost to her opponent at the number one singles spot, falling 6-0, 6-1 while Cash notched the lone win for the Black and Gold against the Flames, winning 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Fernandez and Mauch both fell at the number three and four spots, while Stannard and King also dropped at the five and six positions.
ASU returns to action March 4, as the Apps host North Carolina Central March 4.
