SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Citadel’s Cameron Wells has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all games February 10-16 the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 17).  Wells helped the Bulldogs earn wins over Appalachian State (78-73, OT) and College of Charleston (72-58) last week.  He averaged 24.0 points and 4.5 assists last week.  He added six rebounds and four steals over the two games.  The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s basketball sports information directors.

Wells posted a career-high 30 points in The Citadel’s overtime win against Appalachian State.  He tied his personal best with seven assists against the Mountaineers.  A native of Houston, Texas, Wells scored 18 points against the Cougars.  He shot better than 58 percent (18-31) from the field and was 12-for-12 from the free throw line for the week.  Wells is the fifth-leading scorer in the conference (15.7 ppg) and ranks sixth in assists (3.1 apg) and seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2). 

The Citadel (17-10, 12-4 SoCon) is riding a nine-game winning streak, the school’s longest since the 1926-27 season.  The Bulldogs visit Davidson Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference this week included Appalachian State’s Kellen Brand, Chattanooga’s Stephen McDowell, College of Charleston’s Andrew Goudelock, Davidson’s Stephen Curry, UNC Greensboro’s Mikko Koivisto, Samford’s Josh Davis, Western Carolina’s Harouna Mutombo and Wofford’s Noah Dahlman.
