Sophomore guard averaged 20.5 points per game in two road victories
SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Samford sophomore guard Emily London has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games from February 10-16.
London averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while hitting 8-of-11 three-pointers in leading Samford to two key SoCon road wins last week. In Saturday’s 59-47 win at Appalachian State, she scored 19 points, making 5-of-9 shots, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. In Monday’s 78-67 win at Davidson, London led the team with 22 points, tying a career high. She made 6-of-9 shots, including 4-of-5 from three-point range against Davidson. She also had five rebounds and four assists in Monday’s win.
Riding a streak of four consecutive games with 19 or more points, London has risen to fourth in the SoCon in scoring at 13.5 points per game. The sharpshooter leads the league in free throw percentage (91.4) and ranks second in three-pointer field goal percentage (47.1).
The honor is the second straight for the sophomore from Lexington, Ky.
The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s basketball sports information directors.
Other top performers during the week were Chattanooga’s Jenaya Wade-Fray, Western Carolina’s Kristen Feemster, Appalachian State’s Brittany Mixon, College of Charleston’s Jade Hughes, UNC Greensboro’s Monique Floyd, Georgia Southern’s J’Lisia Ogburn and Wofford’s Natalie Gramblin.
