Lake Named Men's Tennis Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Appalachian State’s Bobby Lake has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played February 10-16 the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 17).  Lake went 1-0 last week, posting a three-set victory to help the Mountaineers topple previously unbeaten East Carolina.  The Player of the Week award is voted on by the league’s sports information directors. 

 

Lake is 3-0 on the year, competing at No. 1 singles.  He was forced to come from behind in his victory over ECU’s Jaroslav Horvath on Saturday.  After dropping the first set, 3-6, Lake rebounded to take both the second and third sets,

6-4, 6-4. He is one of just three individuals in the Southern Conference to be 3-0 on No. 1 singles this season.

 

The Mountaineers (3-0) return to action Friday (Feb. 20) when they host Liberty at 1:00 p.m.

 

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Chattanooga’s Pavel Vostrikov, College of Charleston’s Tom Gelme, Elon’s Philip Nemec, Georgia Southern’s Jayraj Jadeja and Wofford’s Stuart Robinson.
