CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? Elon’s Anna Milian and Elisa Simonetti enjoyed success in singles, but Charlotte remained undefeated by hanging a 5-2 nonconference women’s tennis loss on the Phoenix Sunday afternoon at the Phillips Tennis Center.

Milian defeated Ana Spivakovsky 6-3, 7-6 at No. 1 singles while Simonetti beat Koren Fleming 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 for Elon (4-4). The 49ers (4-0) received singles wins from Yudeshnee Pillay (over Paige Kensrue 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2), Andrea Rivera (over Melissa Wolf 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 4), Gabi Vergara (over Daleen Kloppers 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5) and Kimber Redfern (over Sally Wilkey 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 at No. 6).

On the doubles scene, Spivakovsky and Pillay stopped Milian and Kensrue 8-5 at No. 1, Rivera and Julia Junker foiled Kloppers and Wolf 8-4 at No. 2 and Fleming and Vergara bested Simonetti and Wilkey 8-1 at No. 3.

The Phoenix will soar again with a visit to nationally-ranked North Carolina at 7 p.m. Thursday. Elon will then return home to the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center to open Southern Conference action at 11 a.m. Saturday.
