SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Citadel’s 125-lb. wrestler Tyler Sim has been named this week’s Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all matches Feb. 4-10, the conference office announced Wednesday. Wrestler of the Week is voted on by the league’s wrestling sports information directors.
Sim, a junior, went 4-0 overall during the week, including a 3-0 record and individual championship at the All-Academy Championships, hosted by VMI. Sim won two matches at the championships by decision and one by fall. In the final, the Washington, Pa., native earned a decision over No. 1 seed Prescott Garner of Navy, 7-5.
Earlier in the week, Sim defeated John Pope of VMI as the Bulldogs defeated the Keydets, 21-9 in SoCon action.
The Citadel becomes the first SoCon school this season to win back-to-back wrestler of the week awards, as the Bulldogs’ Keith Koziel won last week.
