SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Citadel’s Demetrius Nelson has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games February 3-9 the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 10). Nelson led the team in scoring in wins over Appalachian State (74-72) and Western Carolina (75-66). He averaged 25.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and made 63 percent of his field goal attempts. The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s basketball sports information directors.
The senior center tallied a career-high 29 points in The Citadel’s win at Western Carolina Saturday. Earlier in the week he posted a team-high 22 points at Appalachian State. Nelson was one rebound away from a double-double in both games. He connected on 16-of-27 (.593) field goal attempts and shot 83 percent from the free throw line. Nelson is sixth in the league in scoring (15.8 ppg) and 14th in rebounding (6.1rpg). He ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (.596) and tenth in free throw percentage (.785)
The Citadel (15-10, 10-4 SoCon) is riding a seven-game winning streak and hosts Appalachian State Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
