Singh Named Women's Tennis Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga’s Shaina Singh has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches through February 9 the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 10).  Singh went 4-2 in her first six matches at No. 1 singles for the Lady Mocs.  The Player of the Week award is voted on by the league’s sports information directors. 

 

Singh started the spring season with back-to-back victories over Whitnie Warren (Belmont) and Leslie Smith (UNC Asheville).  After dropping a straight-sets match to Alabama’s Tiffany Welcher, Singh responded with a 0-6,7-6, 6-3 victory over Middle Tennessee’s Andrea Herrera.  Following a loss to Svetlana Pimenova (Eastern Kentucky), Singh downed Indiana State’s Sarah Meghoufel.  Singh and teammate Emily Hangstefer are 3-3 in doubles play.

 

Chattanooga (2-4) will host Middle Tennessee-Martin Saturday (Feb. 14) at 1:00 p.m.

 

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included College of Charleston’s Caroline Newman, Davidson’s Virginia Berry, Elon’s Paige Kensrue, Georgia Southern’s Ali Beavers and Western Carolina’s Izabella Glinska.
