Sophomore guard averaged 20 points per game in two wins last week

 

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Samford sophomore guard Emily London has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games from February 3-9.

 

London averaged 20 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last week as the Bulldogs defeated College of Charleston (61-41) and Georgia Southern (55-47) to improve to 19-4 overall and 14-2 in the Southern Conference. Against Charleston, London scored 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting overall and 4-of-6 from three-point range. She maintained the hot hand two nights later, pouring in 21 points against GSU while connecting on three more from deep. She also added four steals and was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line.

 

One of the top shooters in the league, the Lexington, Ky., native currently ranks sixth in the Southern Conference in scoring (12.9 ppg), sixth in field goal percentage (47.3), first in free throw percentage (89.8) and second in three-point percentage (44.5).

 

The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s basketball sports information directors.

 

Other top performers during the week were Davidson’s Mercedes Robinson, Chattanooga’s Erin Ogan, Western Carolina’s Kendra Eaton, Elon’s Tiara Gause, Georgia Southern’s Ashley Melson and UNC Greensboro’s Gini Grimsley.
