SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston's Jeremy Simmons has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games December 1-7 the league office announced Tuesday (Dec. 8). The Cougars went 3-0 in league play last week as they earned wins over Georgia Southern (68-59), Davidson (65-55) and UNC Greensboro (67-64). Simmons averaged 12.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and four blocked shots per game last week. The player of the week is selected by the league office.
The junior began the week with 10 points and 13 rebounds in CofC's win over Georgia Southern. Simmons added five blocked shots and two steals against the Eagles. Facing Davidson Saturday afternoon, the Lithonia, Ga., native recorded 16 points, a game-high 10 rebounds and tallied five blocked shots. Simmons closed the week with 10 points and nine rebounds against UNC Greensboro. Simmons shot 15-of-25 (.625) from the floor for the week.
Simmons leads the league rebounding (9.5 rpg), blocked shots (3.0 bpg) and field goal percentage (.660). He ranks eighth in the league in scoring with 13.5 points per game. He is one of just three players to be in the league's top ten for both scoring and rebounding.
The Cougars (4-3, 3-0 SoCon) return to action December 16 when they host Charleston Southern.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Donald Sims, The Citadel's Zach Urbanus, Davidson's Will Archambault, Elon's Chris Long, Furman's Jordan Miller, UNC Greensboro's Ben Stywall, Chattanooga's Josh Odem, Western Carolina's Jake Robinson and Wofford's Noah Dahlman.
