SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Senior Nick Schuermann of the Wofford College men's soccer team was named to the 2009 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Men's NCAA Division I All-America Third Team. He was the only player from the Southern Conference to earn All-America honors this season.

Schuermann, a defenseman from Fort Mill, S.C., started all 18 games and scored five goals on the season. He had a hat-trick at Furman on November 3, the ninth in school history. He has started all 65 games in his career and has seven goals with one assist.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America serves as the recognized leader in naming All-America soccer players. The NSCAA selects All-America teams at every level of play. Through its annual sponsorship of the All-America teams, NSCAA provides coaches the opportunity to help their players receive richly deserved recognition while helping promote the growth of the sport. The NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-America selections will be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, held in Philadelphia, Pa., on Jan. 16 as part of the 2010 NSCAA Convention.

Schuermann is only the third played in school history to earn All-America honors and the first in the NCAA Division I era at Wofford. Previously Dan Murphy (1991) and Sean Murphy (1994) earned NCAA Division II All-America honors.

The Terriers set the school NCAA Division I records for wins in a season (12), Southern Conference wins in a season and had the first winning record since 1994. Wofford won the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
