SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford College men's soccer team had three student-athletes named to the 2009 Division I National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-South Region Team. Nick Schuermann received first team honors, Kentrel Owens second team honors and Paulo Bonfim third team honors.

Schuermann, a senior defenseman from Fort Mill, S.C., started all 18 games and scored five goals on the season. He had a hat-trick at Furman on November 3, the ninth in school history. He has started all 65 games in his career and has seven goals with one assist.

Owens, a junior forward from Charlotte, N.C., finished second on the team with six goals and two assists for 14 points. He started all 18 games and had three game-winning goals. For his career he has twelve goals and six assists in 57 games played.

A junior midfielder from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Bonfim started twelve games before his season ended with a knee injury. He had two assists on the year.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America serves as the recognized leader in naming All-America soccer players. The NSCAA selects All-America teams at every level of play. Through its annual sponsorship of the All-America teams, NSCAA provides coaches the opportunity to help their players receive richly deserved recognition while helping promote the growth of the sport.

This marks the first time that any Wofford players have been named to the Division I All-South Region team. Several players had been honored when Wofford competed at the NCAA Division II level.

The Terriers set the school NCAA Division I records for wins in a season (12), Southern Conference wins in a season and had the first winning record since 1994. Wofford won the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
