SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston center Deidra Jones earned her second double-double of the season and has been selected the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week for all games November 17-23.
The senior from Irmo, S.C., scored 23 points and collected 19 rebounds in the Cougars' 62-45 win against Texas-San Antonio to set career highs in both categories. It marked her second double-double of the season and the sixth of her career. She also posted three steals and a block.
In College of Charleston's 97-71 win versus Mercer, Jones added 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks. She shot 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
Jones is currently averaging a double-double with 11.8 points per game and 10 rebounds. She leads the league in rebounds.
Up next for Jones and the Cougars is a trip to Chicago, Ill., where they will participate in the Doubletree White Invitational. College of Charleston will face host Northwestern on Friday and Iowa State on Saturday.
Other top performers included Chattanooga's Shanara Hollinquest, Elon's Ali Ford, Georgia Southern's Jessica Geiger, Samford's Savannah Hill and Wofford's Maddie Helms.
