Elon's Thomas Honored By TDS

ELON, N.C. - Elon University freshman Chris Thomas was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com (TDS) 2009 All-Rookie Team. Thomas, the 2009 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, earned honorable mention recognition by TDS as one of the most impressive rookie performers in the country. The forward was the lone member of the SoCon to be selected to any of the TDS Teams of the Season.
 
Thomas scored 10 goals in his inaugural season in the maroon and gold, the fourth-highest single-season total in Elon history. The native of Snellville, Ga. finished the season ranked second in the conference in goals and points (23). Three of Thomas' strikes were game-winners, including his score against Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson. He also netted both Elon goals to lift the Phoenix over College of Charleston in the semifinals of the league tournament, leading Elon to its first-ever appearance in the championship game.
 
In addition to being named the league's rookie of the year, Thomas also earned second-team all-conference honors and a spot on the all-freshman team. In addition, he was selected to the SoCon's all-tournament team.
