SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Elon's Josh Bonney has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played through November 16 the league office announced Tuesday (Nov. 17).  Bonney helped the Phoenix go 1-1 in two games.  He averaged 19.5 points and 5.5 assists for Elon.  He added six rebounds as the Phoenix defeated Lipscomb (91-86) on the road before falling to Charlotte (75-61) in the opening round of the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off.  The player of the week is selected by the league office.

The Houston, Texas, native came off the bench and scored a career-high 24 points in just 26 minutes as Elon knocked off the Bison Saturday night.  It was head coach Matt Matheny's first career victory as head coach of the Phoenix.  Bonney connected on 9-of-16 shots from the field against Lipscomb and dished out seven assists.  The sophomore guard came off the bench Monday night and scored a team-high 15 points as Elon fell to the 49ers.  He has eleven assists and just three turnovers through two games this season and has shot better than 44 percent (15-34) from the field.

The Phoenix (1-1) return to action Tuesday night when they take on Coastal Carolina in the second game of the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off.  The Phoenix and Chanticleers will tip-off at 8:30 p.m. in Durham, N.C., at Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Ryann Abraham, College of Charleston's Andrew Goudelock, The Citadel's Joe Wolfinger, Furman's Jordan Miller, Georgia Southern's Johntavious Rucker, Samford's Trey Montgomery, Chattanooga's Jeremy Saffore and Wofford's Noah Dahlman.
