SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Maja Jechorek, a senior outside hitter from Appalachian State, has been selected the Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for her performance in matches November 9-15, as announced by the league office Monday.
The Sulechow, Poland, native tallied 45 kills and hit .296 in Appalachian State's two victories last week. She also recorded 29 digs and four blocks, including one block solo.
In the Mountaineers' 3-2 win against UNC Greensboro, Jechorek posted 28 kills to set a new career high and also move into ninth place on ASU's individual match records list. Her 28th kill came on the last play, giving the Mountaineers the fifth set 17-15. Jechorek also added 17 digs which tied her career high.
Jechorek posted a team-high 17 kills to go along with 12 digs against Elon. She scored four of Appalachian State's final points to help the Mountaineers win the fifth set and edge the Phoenix 3-2. With the win, ASU earned the No. 2 seed in the North Division for the upcoming conference tournament.
Next up for Jechorek and Appalachian State is the Southern Conference Volleyball Championship at Furman University on November 21-22. The Mountaineers will face Furman, the No. 1 seed from the South Division, on Saturday.
