SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Wofford College, which captured its first Southern Conference men's soccer regular season championship, will serve as host of the 2009 conference tournament.  The Terriers, who finished the regular season with a 5-1-1 record in league play, will take on fourth-seeded UNC Greensboro Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The first semifinal of the day pits No. 2 College of Charleston against No. 3 Elon at 5:00 p.m. 

The championship match is slated for 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C.

UNC Greensboro played Wofford to a 2-2 draw on October 3 in Spartanburg, S.C.  Since that game the Terriers have won five of their last seven matches.  The Spartans were the seventh seed in last year's tournament and took home the tournament title with a 2-1 win over College of Charleston.  The Spartans have played in the conference title game in each of the past four years. 

College of Charleston started the season with five straight wins and closed the year winning five of eight to surge up the conference standings and claim the No. 2 seed.  The Cougars led the league with 38 goals during 2009.  College of Charleston was the only league team to beat Wofford during the season with a 2-1 victory in Spartanburg on October 30.  The Cougars won the conference tournament in 2004.

Elon enters this weekend's tournament having won three of its last four matches.  The Phoenix picked up a win during the regular season at College of Charleston with a 1-0 victory October 6.  Elon has been one of the best defensive teams in the league this season, limiting its opponents to just 0.89 goals per game.  The Phoenix recorded a league-high nine shutouts during the regular season.
