SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Amanda Flink, a junior defender for the Davidson women's soccer team, has been honored as the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for November 11, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
The Richardson, Texas, native is majoring in mathematics and has a 3.52 GPA.
Flink scored the game-winning goal in the championship match of the Southern Conference tournament to help the Wildcats defeat College of Charleston, 1-0. With less than a minute remaining in double overtime Davidson was awarded a corner kick. Flink headed the ball past the Cougars' goalkeeper to give the Wildcats the win. It was Davidson's first NCAA Tournament bid and its first SoCon tournament title since 1996.
Along with her goal, Flink was part of a Davidson defense that played 198 scoreless minutes. For her efforts, Flink earned tournament MVP honors. She was also recognized by CollegeSoccer360.com as a Primetime Performer of the Week.
Flink recorded three goals this season and started 21 of 22 games. She was named to the all-conference second team.
Other nominees included The Citadel wrestler Manuel Camargo, Furman volleyball player Kelsey Salava, Georgia Southern volleyball player Lauren Claybaugh and Wofford men's soccer player Nick Schuermann.
