Men's Soccer Southern Conference

Wofford's Schuermann Named POW

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Wofford senior defender Nick Schuermann has been named the Southern Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played November 3-9.  Schuermann recorded a hat trick in Wofford's 4-3 win at Furman last Tuesday.  The win clinched the league's regular season title for the Terriers.  Wofford also earned a 2-1 win at Georgia State Saturday night.

After Wilson Hood scored in the second minute to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead, Schuermann scored goals in the fifth and 19th minutes to push Wofford to a 3-0 advantage.  After Furman had trimmed the lead to 3-2 midway through the second half, Schuermann notched his third marker of the game less than a minute later to give the Terriers a 4-2 cushion.

Schuermann's hat trick gives him five goals on the season.  It was the ninth hat trick in school history and just the second since the Terriers became a Division I program in 1995.  The Fort Mill, S.C., native anchors a defense that has given up a league-best 15 goals this season.

The Terriers (10-2-3, 5-1-1 SoCon) will serve as host of the 2009 Southern Conference Men's Soccer Championship.  The top-seeded Terriers will face UNC Greensboro Friday at 7:30 p.m.  Second-seeded College of Charleston will face No. 3 Elon in the opening semifinal at 5:00 p.m.

Other top performers this week were Appalachian State's Collin Taylor, College of Charleston's Matt Morris and Elon's Justin Wyatt.
