SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Furman's Jessica Smith has been named the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played September 29-October 5. Smith recorded two shutout wins last week as Furman downed The Citadel (2-0) and College of Charleston (1-0).
Smith recorded three saves in Furman's 2-0 win over The Citadel Friday night. In Sunday's match against College of Charleston, Smith tallied three saves including a key save in the 76th minute. CofC's Julie Romanik fired a shot from long range that was headed towards to top of the net, but Smith was able to lunge and punch the ball over the crossbar.
Smith has three shutouts on the season and owns a 1.02 goals against average through 11 games. She is eighth in the conference with 37 saves on the season
The Paladins (8-3, 2-2) host Samford Thursday night. Furman then visits Chattanooga on Sunday.
Other top performers this week were Davidson's Kyri Bye-Nagel, Samford's Amber Cress, Chattanooga's Becca Smith, Western Carolina's Shannon Fowkes and Wofford's Daniella Fatti.
