Hudgins, Anderson, Jones and Mora Receive Weekly Honors
SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference named its football players of the week today for the games played on Saturday, Oct. 3. Elon’s Terrell Hudgins was named Offensive Player of the Week while Furman’s Kadarron Anderson earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Citadel’s Van Dyke Jones was selected as the Freshman of the Week, and Georgia Southern’s Adrian Mora was tabbed as the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Terrell Hudgins, Elon, Sr., WR
Hudgins became the NCAA Division I all-time leader with 331 career receptions after tying a career high with 16 catches in a 19-12 win at Furman. The senior tallied 209 yards and a touchdown and was clutch in the fourth quarter, hauling in six catches for 69 yards, including a 36-yarder to the two-yard line that set up his touchdown. Hudgins is now just 327 yards shy of breaking Jerry Rice’s FCS career receiving yardage record.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kadarron Anderson, Furman, So., LB
Anderson recorded a game-high 14 tackles, including 1.5 for loss in Furman’s 19-12 loss to 12th-ranked Elon. The sophomore, who leads the Southern Conference in total tackles with 59 through five games, helped the Paladin defense limit the Phoenix to just one offensive touchdown after they entered the game averaging 33 points per contest.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Van Dyke Jones, The Citadel, Fr., RB
Jones led the Bulldog running game with four carries for 81 yards in a 30-27, overtime loss to No. 10 Appalachian State. Early in the fourth quarter he broke off a 69-yard touchdown run to regain the lead for the Bulldogs. Jones also caught one pass for 21 yards, totaling 102 yards of offense on the afternoon.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Adrian Mora, Georgia Southern, So., PK
Mora kicked the two longest field goals of his career, from 48 and 50 yards out, to provide the winning margin in Georgia Southern’s 26-21 win at Wofford. The sophomore also converted on both extra point attempts, and he currently is tied for the conference lead and ranks 10th nationally with eight field goals through the first five games of the season.
