SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford's Hillary Neal has been selected as the Southern Conference Women's Runner of the Week for her performance at the Coach "O" Invitational Saturday, the league announced Wednesday. It is Neal's second award in as many weeks.
The junior from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., won the Coach "O" Invitational Saturday in Troy, Ala. Her time of 10:57 for the two-mile course set a new course record. Neal helped lead the Bulldogs to the women's team title defeating second place South Alabama by 34 points.
Next up for Neal and the Bulldogs are the Southern Conference Cross Country Championships on October 31 in Elon, N.C.
Other top performers included:
Appalachian State's Brittney Caudle, a freshman art major from Middletown, Md., finished fourth out of 133 runners at the Blue Ridge Open. Her time of 17:40 on the 5K course broke her own freshman record by 13 seconds. She now ranks fifth all-time at ASU and currently leads the Southern Conference rankings.
