SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Sarah Schermerhorn, a junior middle blocker for the Phoenix volleyball team has been selected as the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for October 21, the league office announced Wednesday.
The Colfax, N.C., native is majoring in economics with a minor in accounting and has a GPA of 3.99.
In Elon's two conference wins last week, Schermerhorn tallied 19 kills for an attack percentage of .293 along with three service aces. Defensively, she recorded seven block assists, averaging one block per set.
Against Georgia Southern, Schermerhorn hit .391 going 11-for-23 with two errors. She also posted two service aces.
Other nominees included College of Charleston volleyball player Ginny Phillips, The Citadel cross country runner Nathan Jackson, Davidson women's soccer player Blakely Low, Furman football player Jordan Sorrells, UNC Greensboro cross country runner Joey Thompson and Chattanooga football player Steven Smigelsky.
