SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson senior Lance Harden has been selected the Southern Conference Men's Runner of the Week for his performance at the Blue Ridge Open Saturday, the league office announced Wednesday. It is the second time Harden has won the award this season.
The philosophy major from Apex, N.C., placed fourth overall and was the second collegiate finisher at the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C. His time of 25:02 on the 8K course marked the third time Harden has recorded a Davidson top-10 mark this season.
Harden led the Davidson men to a second-place team finish, only one point behind the winner, High Point University.
Next up for Harden and the Wildcats are the Southern Conference Cross Country Championships on October 31 in Elon, N.C.
Other top performers included:
Wofford's Trey Parker, a freshman from Sumter, S.C., finished fifth at the USC Upstate Invitational. His time of 26:06 in his third 8K of the season broke the school record, the third time Parker has broken the record this season.
UNC Greensboro's Joey Thompson, a sophomore pre-business major from Columbia, Md., placed second at the USC Upstate Invitational. His time of 25:03 helped lead the Spartans to the men's team title. Thompson was one of five UNCG runners to finish in the top 10 helping the Spartans earn a total of 24 points.
