SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford junior forward Leah Leppert has been named the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played October 13-19. Leppert scored two goals in key conference road wins over UNC Greensboro (2-1) and Elon (1-0) last week.
It was the first two goals of the season for Leppert. The Germantown, Tenn., native scored in the 20th minute against the Spartans to tie the score, 1-1 Friday night. The Bulldogs picked up a goal from Amber Cress to start the second half and held on for the win. In Sunday's match against Elon, Leppert scored the game-winning goal in the 24th minute off a feed from Cress.
Leppert is third on the team with seven points this season. She leads the Bulldogs with 27 shots and picked up the game-winning goal against Elon.
The Bulldogs (10-1-3, 5-1-2 SoCon) are third in the conference standings with 17 points and three games remaining. Samford hosts league opponents Georgia Southern and Davidson this weekend.
Other top performers this week were Appalachian State's Caroline Clark, College of Charleston's Julie Romanik, The Citadel's Whitney Nave, Davidson's Kyri Bye-Nagel, Elon's Liz Palmer, Georgia Southern's Michelle Carlson, and Wofford's Rachel Blackburn.
