College of Charleston Women’s Golf Leads at Wendy’s Invitational

 

North Charleston, S.C. ? Kathy Boehm (Poing, Germany) fired a 73 to sit tied for second, while Ainhoa Nogales (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) and Vanessa Koechli (Greer, S.C.) shot a 74 each to tie for 4th, and lead the College of Charleston women’s golf team to first with a 298 and a three-stroke lead after the first round of the Charleston Southern Wendy’s Invitational being held Oct. 19-20 at the Coosaw Creek Country Club in North Charleston, S.C.

 

Coastal Carolina shot a 301 and is second, while host Charleston Southern is tied for fourth with a 315.

 

Buccaneer Olivia Jordan-Higgins leads the tournament with a 70.  Boehm is tied for second with Chanticleer Jessica Alexander.

 

Koechli and Nogales are tied for fourth with a 74 each, while Anna Martin (Easley, S.C.) is tied for 13th with a 77.  Leigh Whittaker (Baden-Baden, Germany) rounds out the Cougar effort with an 18-hole finish of 82 for a tie at 40th.

 

Two Cougars are competing as individuals, with Emily Rapp (Simpsonville, S.C.)  tied for 32nd with an 80 and Courtney Brink (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) tied for 45th with an 83.

 

The Cougars tee off at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday in final round action.

McFadden Leads Elon to Fifth After Two Rounds


GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Tara McFadden shot a tournament-low round of 66 in her second round of the day on her way to a 139 for the day (-3) to sit atop the leaderboard of the 2009 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate.  McFadden's efforts have the Elon Phoenix (302-298--600) sitting in fifth-place in the 15-team tournament following Monday's two rounds.  The squads will play the final round of the event on Tuesday from the Greenville Country Club.
 
McFadden followed up her round of 73 with the 66 and currently holds a two stroke advantage over East Carolina's Abby Bools.  The field consists of 84 golfers.
 
Shannon Prunty is tied for 21st after carding a 151 (74-77) on Monday.  Diana Davis posted a 152 (77-75) to sit in a 27th-place tie through 36 holes.  Elon's team was rounded out by Kelsey Johnson (T58th; 78-80--158) and Lauren Lebak (81st; 87-82--169).
 
Sixth-first-ranked East Tennessee State (296-290) and 57th-ranked Georgia State (293-293) each shot 586 through their two rounds to lead the event.  Sitting between those two sides and Elon are host and 84th-ranked East Carolina (296-293--589) and Xavier (301-295--596).
 
The Phoenix currently holds the edge over SoCon rival and 65th-ranked UNC Greensboro (6th; 302-301--603) as well as teams such as 56th-rated Michigan (T7th; 308-300--608), 60th-ranked Maryland (11th; 305-306--611) and Miami (13th; 317-305).  The field features nine teams ranked in the Golfweek top-100.

 

 

UNCG sixth after two rounds at Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

 

GREENVILLE, N.C. ? UNC Greensboro cards rounds of 302 and 301 as a team on Monday to six in sixth place after two rounds at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, being played on the Classic Course at Greenville CC.

 

Junior Erica Creed shot two rounds of 74 to lead the Spartans on Monday, sitting in a tie for 12th place entering Tuesday’s final round. Freshman Courtney Taylor is tied for 15th. Taylor was one shot off the lead after the opening round with a morning score of 71. But she shot a 79 in the afternoon to finish with a 36-hole total of 150.

 

Elon’s Tara McFadden has the individual lead after tearing things up in the afternoon. Following a morning round of 73, McFadden shot a 66 in the afternoon to hold a two-shot lead over East Carolina’s Abby Bools.

 

East Tennessee State and Georgia State are tied atop the team leaderboard at 586, three shots better than tournament host East Carolina.

 

Tuesday’s final round will be a shotgun start beginning at 8:35 a.m.

The Citadel Golf Completes Day One at the Wendy’s Invitational

 

Charleston, S.C. - Bulldog Golf concludes day one in 15th place at the Wendy's Invitational in Charleston, S.C. with a team score of 364 (+80). The two-day event includes 15 teams and is hosted by Charleston Southern University at the Coosaw Creek Country Club.

 

Sophomore Alanna-Jean Keith leads the Bulldogs tied at 55th place shooting an 85 (+14). Leading the individual competition is the winner of last season's competition, CSU's Olivia Jordan-Higgins shooting one under par for a score of 70.

 

Trailing close behind Keith for The Citadel is Bree Baumgartner with a score of 88 (+17) and tied at 62nd place. Rounding out the competition for the Bulldogs are Sheri Rockefeller tied in 72nd, Christine Clark tied at 79th and in 81st place is Natalie Flores.
