SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Ginny Phillips, a junior at College of Charleston, has been selected the Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for her performance in matches October 12-18, as announced by the league office Monday.
The right side hitter from Raleigh, N.C., averaged 2.83 kills, 1.67 blocks and 1.83 digs in College of Charleston's two victories this weekend. She recorded 17 kills, 10 blocks and three service aces in six sets.
In the Cougars' 3-0 sweep of Chattanooga, Phillips tallied four assists, four digs and two blocks along with eight kills for a .500 attack percentage.
Against Samford, Phillips posted eight blocks, seven digs and three service aces. She hit .438 and recorded nine kills, which tied for the match high. The Cougars defeated the Bulldogs 3-0 and handed them their first loss at home, snapping their 22-match win streak.
Next up for Phillips and College of Charleston is a two-match homestand where the Cougars will welcome UNC Greensboro on October 24 and Elon on October 25.
