Women’s Golf Finishes Eighth at Mercedes-Benz Championship
Chattanooga bests two top 10 programs in the 54-hole event
FARRAGUT, Tenn.---The Chattanooga women’s golf team finished eighth at the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championship at Fox Den Country Club Sunday afternoon. The 17th-ranked Lady Mocs finished the three-day tourney at 907, five shots behind No. 12 Florida at 902.
Chattanooga shot 305 in the final round led by sophomore Maria Juliana Loza’s 71. Loza carded three birdies and just two bogeys in pacing the squad. She finished tied for 29th at 227 (+11),
Junior Emma de Groot was the low finisher ending tied for 20th with a total of 224 (+8) after an uncharacteristic 79 (+7) on the last day. Sophomore Maria Salinas tied for 39th at 228 (+12) with a 77 today.
Junior Christine Wolf shot a 78 for her final round to end up tied for 66th at 234, while senior Kayla Stewart ended up tied for 77th at 236.
It was a rough day from the outset for the Lady Mocs as the team was four-over par through fourt holes. UTC turned at 14-over par, but righted the ship a bit on the back nine shooting three-over on the side.
Host Tennessee claimed the title with a four-over par score of 868. No. 22 Louisville came in second at 887, while No. 24 South Carolina finished third at 889. Chattanooga topped No. 7 LSU by three shots, No. 9 Ohio State by 14 shots, No. 20 Tulane by six and SoCon rival Furman by 21.
This wraps up the fall portion of the season for the Lady Mocs. The team resumes play on March 1-2 at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge in Valdosta, Ga.

Furman Finishes 16th At Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championship
Knoxville, Tenn. -- Furman’s Stefanie Kenoyer (74-75-73=222) carded a final round 73 to finish with a share of 13th place and help Furman to a 16th place finish on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championship at the par-72 Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
Kenoyer, ranked 10th in the latest Golfstat Collegiate Cup standings, shot her low round of the tournament, including a pair of birdies on the back nine, to score her fourth top-15 finish in as many outings this fall. The Paladins struggled to a 16th place finish in the 18-team field after posting a 24-over 312 during the final round.
Tennessee’s Nathalie Mansson (71-71-71=213) claimed individual medalist honors after outlasting Louisville’s Laura Anderson (72-70-71=213) in a five-hole sudden death playoff. Mansson’s performance helped the 18th-ranked Lady Vols (283-291-294=868) cruise to a 19-stroke victory over Louisville. South Carolina finished in third place with Kent State and Wake Forest rounding out the top five.
The Mercedes-Benz field includes 13 teams ranked in the top 50, including nine of the top 25 teams in the country. The field also includes 27 of the top 100 ranked individuals in the nation.
