Davidson's Pilgrim Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson's Yannick Pilgrim has been named the Southern Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played October 6-12.  Pilgrim tallied five points last week as the Wildcats knocked off then-No. 6 Duke, 4-1, last Tuesday before falling to Elon, 2-1 in overtime.

Pilgrim scored the eventual game-winner against the Blue Devils in the ninth minute off a long pass from Garrett Bostwick.  He added a second goal in the 77th minute to cap the scoring as the Wildcats knocked off the Blue Devils in Davidson.  In Saturday's match against Elon, Pilgrim assisted on Charlie Reiter's goal in the 11th minute which gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.

The junior forward was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week for his performance in Davidson's two games.  Pilgrim is second in the league in points (18) and goals (7).  He has added four assists on the season and is tied for the league lead with three game-winning goals.

The Wildcats (9-2, 2-1 SoCon) moved into the top 25 rankings this week and secured the No. 21 spot.  Davidson hosts Appalachian State Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.  The Wildcats will then entertain Furman Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m.
