SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Elon senior goalkeeper Sydney Little has been named the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played October 6-12. Little recorded 200 minutes in net last week and did not give up a goal. The Phoenix played Appalachian State to a 0-0 draw on Thursday before claiming a 1-0 victory over Western Carolina Sunday afternoon.
Little recorded three saves in the draw against the Mountaineers and made four stops against the Catamounts. It was the first time in the program's history that the Phoenix picked up a win over Western Carolina. The Garner, N.C., native now has six shutouts on the season.
Little is second in the league in save percentage (.854) and third in goals against average (0.60). Her six shutouts are tied for second best in the conference.
The Phoenix (8-3-2, 4-1-1 SoCon) have matched their win total from last year with eight victories already in 2009. Elon hosts Greensboro College Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Phoenix will then host league foes Chattanooga (Oct. 16) and Samford (Oct. 18) this weekend.
Other top performers this week were College of Charleston's Alyssa Bearden, The Citadel's Amy Loughran, Davidson's Blakely Low, UNC Greensboro's Tabitha Padgett, Samford's Colette Nammour, and Wofford's Katie McChesney.
