SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Georgia Southern's Kate Van Dyke has been honored as the Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for her performance in matches October 5-11, the league office announced Monday.
The freshman setter from Shawnee, Kansas, averaged 12.36 assists per set in Georgia Southern's three victories last week. Van Dyke currently leads the team in assists with 803 and averages 10.71 per set. For the season she has posted 64 kills and 171 digs, good for third on the team. Her 19 service aces rank second.
In the Eagles' 3-0 win against North Florida, Van Dyke recorded 34 assists in three sets for an average of 11.3. She posted a .429 attack percentage with three kills and also notched six digs.
Against The Citadel, Van Dyke averaged 13.0 assists per set with a match-high 39 assists. She also recorded two block assists, a match high, as well as the Eagles' only block solo in their 3-0 victory.
In Georgia Southern's 3-2 win against College of Charleston, its first win over the Cougars since 2004, Van Dyke posted career highs in kills and assists. She averaged 12.6 assists per set and hit .538 with eight kills and one error. Van Dyke posted a double-double with 63 assists and 14 digs, and fell short of a triple-double with eight kills. She tallied one block assist and two service aces in the Eagles' win. Georgia Southern is 14-6 overall and 4-1 in league play.
Next up for Van Dyke and the Eagles is a home match on October 13 against Davidson. Georgia Southern then visits Elon on October 17 and UNC Greensboro on October 18.
