Moore, Beard, Shreiner and Hooper Receive Weekly Honors
SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference named its football players of the week today for the games played on Saturday, Oct. 10. Appalachian State’s Devon Moore was named Offensive Player of the Week while Chattanooga’s Josh Beard earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Elon’s Adam Shreiner was selected as the Freshman of the Week, and Samford’s Bob Hooper was tabbed as the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Devon Moore, Appalachian State, Jr., RB
Moore registered his third 100-yard rushing day of the season on Saturday with 124 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries in No. 9 Appalachian State’s 55-21 win over North Carolina Central. His 73-yard touchdown run was the longest rush of his career while the two touchdowns marked the junior’s first multi-touchdown game of his career. Following his performance, Moore moved into 17th place nationally in rushing (97.6 ypg).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josh Beard, Chattanooga, Sr., DL
Beard recorded a career-high two sacks at Samford in the Mocs’ 14-7 Southern Conference victory. He led UTC’s defensive linemen with seven tackles, including six solos, while adding a pair of quarterback hurries. Beard is second in the SoCon and ninth in the FCS with 5.5 sacks on the year as Chattanooga has jumped out to its best overall start since 1997.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Adam Shreiner, Elon, Fr., PK
Shreiner was 3-for-4 on field goal attempts, including a career long boot of 43 yards, in No. 10 Elon’s 43-7 win over The Citadel. Shreiner also averaged 54.4 yards per kick-off and accounted for 13 of Elon’s 43 points.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bob Hooper, Samford, Jr., P
Hooper set a Samford record, averaging 54.2 yards on five punts in Samford’s home SoCon game against Chattanooga on Saturday. Hooper placed two kicks inside the Chattanooga 20-yard line, including one that was downed inside the Mocs’ one-yard line. The junior had a long punt on the day of 59 yards, and four of his five kicks traveled at least 50 yards.
