SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? UNC Greensboro 141-lb wrestler Chris Bencivenga has been named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all matches from Dec. 24-Jan. 6 as voted on by the conference wrestling sports information directors, the conference office announced Thursday.

Bencivenga finished 7-4 overall, highlighted by a sixth-place finish in the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, N.C. The senior went 5-3 at the tournament with his only loses to the No. 12, No. 18 and No. 20 wrestlers at the 141-lb weight class. This past weekend, Bencivenga went 2-1 at the Old Dominion Duals, losing only to the No. 8 wrestler, while defeating wrestlers from George Mason and Purdue. The honor is the second for Bencivenga on the season.

Also nominated for this week’s award were Appalachian State’s Frank Celorrio and Chattanooga’s Seth Garvin.
