Senior Forward Recorded Three-Straight Double-Doubles in Wildcat Wins
SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Davidson senior forward Mercedes Robinson has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games from December 23 ? January 5.
Robinson averaged 14.3 points and 13.7 rebounds over the span, recording double figure totals in both points and rebounds in each game, as Davidson improved to 6-0 in Southern Conference play. She saved her best game of the week for the last when she carried the Wildcats to a 61-55 overtime win at UNC Greensboro on Monday with game highs of 17 points and 17 rebounds for her third double-double of the week, and fourth straight overall.
Robinson currently leads the SoCon in rebounding at 10.1 boards per contest, and she is ranked third in scoring average, pouring in 14.3 markers per game, as she aims to become just the second SoCon player this decade to average a double-double for a season.
The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s basketball sports information directors.
Other top performers during the week were Furman’s Lee Stephens, Samford’s Savannah Hill, Georgia Southern’s Ashley Rivens, Chattanooga’s Shanara Hollinquest, Western Carolina’s Brooke Johnson, Appalachian State’s Canesha Edwards, College of Charleston’s Tonia Gerty, Elon’s Tiara Gause and Wofford’s Mahagony Williams.
