SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Furman track athlete Patrick Morgan and Appalachian State field athlete Matt Boruff were named this week’s Southern Conference Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week for all meets from Jan. 21-28, the conference office announced Thursday. The voting is done by the league’s head track and field coaches.

Morgan, a senior health and exercise science major, won the 3K race at the UNC Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C., Saturday in a SoCon-leading time of 8:23.11.

Boruff, a junior business major, placed second in the heptathlon at the Liberty Open in Lynchburg, Va., Saturday by scoring 4,840 points, breaking his own school record.

Also nominated for this week’s track award was Appalachian State’s Asmeron Desta.
