Student Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) in the Southern Conference are conducting a league-wide community service project to raise funds to support The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund?.   The legendary women's basketball coach lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, Janury 24, the day the SoCon kicked-off its Pink Zone campaign. This year’s project is being held in conjunction with the WBCA Pink Zone.  Members of all the SAACs throughout the league will sell Susan B. Koman pink shoelaces to raise funds to support this worthy cause. In addition to the pink shoe laces each SAAC is encouraged to use their creativity in other ways to generate contributions.

“There is great value in embracing a service project that gives back to the local and national community and the overall effectiveness of that project is always increased when there is interaction between student-athletes and fans,” said Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino.

The final proceeds will be tallied in February. The SAAC that contributes the most money will be awarded a cash prize of $500 and will be recognized at the 2009 Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament in Chattanooga.

Below is a list of designated “Pink Zone” games throughout the league. In addition to the 11 women’s basketball teams, The Citadel men’s basketball team will participate in their game against Elon on January 27.
