SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina senior track athlete Manteo Mitchell and Appalachian State junior field athlete Ryan Twiford have been named this week’s Southern Conference Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for all meets from Dec. 5-Jan.18, the conference office announced Wednesday. The athletes of the week are selected by the league’s track and field head coaches.

At the December 5th Appalachian Invitational, Mitchell won the 400-meter run with a new ASU Holmes record of 47.88. He also ran a leg on the Western Carolina 4 x 400-meter relay squad that took top honors and is ranked number one in the conference. Mitchell is currently ranked first in the 400 and second in the 60-meter dash in the SoCon.

Twiford placed second in a jump off in the pole vault at the ASU Invitational on December 5th with a jump of 15' 7". This vault ranks him sixth all-time in the ASU history books. 

Also nominated this week was Appalachian State track athlete Ricky Harris.
