SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Davidson’s Stephen Curry has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games January 13-19 the league office announced Tuesday (Jan. 20). Curry helped the Wildcats earns wins over Elon (83-68) and Georgia Southern (89-68) last week. He averaged 33.5 points, 4.5 assists and connected on 46 percent of his field goal attempts. It is the fifth time this season he has won the award, tying the record he set during the 2007-08 season. The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s basketball sports information directors.
Curry scored a game-high 39 points in Davidson’s victory over Elon, marking the 23rd time in his career he has scored at least 30 points. He followed up that performance with a game-high 28 points against Georgia Southern. Curry leads the nation with 29.1 points per game. He also leads the league in assist (6.5 apg) and steals (3.0 spg). He is tops among all Southern Conference performers in minutes played (34.1).
Davidson (14-3, 7-0 SoCon) hosts Furman Wednesday night at Belk Arena. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
