SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Virginia Military Institute’s 285-lb. wrestler Leon Barrow has been named this week’s Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all matches Jan. 6-12 as voted on by the conference wrestling sports information directors, the league office announced Tuesday.

Barrow fashioned a 5-0 record at the “Shorty” Hitchcock Memorial Classic this past weekend to earn his second individual title of the season. The senior has now won nine of his last 10 matches over the past month and leads VMI with 14 wins on the season.

Also nominated for this week’s award were Davidson’s Ben Altman, The Citadel’s Derek Royster, Chattanooga’s Cody Cleveland, UNC Greensboro’s Mitchell Johnson and Appalachian State’s Frank Celorrio.
