SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina senior quarterback Andy Horn has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the first week of games, it was announced by the conference office Thursday.

Horn, a philosophy major, boasts a 3.943 GPA, the highest on the Catamount football team.

In just his second career start last Thursday, the Charlotte, N.C., native led WCU to a 35-0 shutout of Shorter College. For the game, he was 22-of-33 for 262 yards and two touchdowns. 

Other nominations included Appalachian State men’s cross country runner Josh Houser, Elon women’s soccer player Molly Calpin, Samford volleyball player Hillary Fountain, The Citadel volleyball player Jessica Maas, Davidson women’s soccer player Mel Smith and UNC Greensboro women’s soccer player Kelly Attayek.
