SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? After a strong performance in both of Samford’s first two Southern Conference wins, Hillary Fountain has been named SoCon Player of the Week for the second time this season as voted on by the conference sports information directors, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Fountain, a sophomore setter, averaged 12.67 assists per set and helped lead her team to a 68 percent sideout efficiency against Davidson and a 78 percent sideout efficiency against Georgia Southern. In the two matches, she also had seven kills, four aces, three block assists, one block solo and only one error. The Bulldogs swept both the Wildcats and Eagles 3-0 and are now 13-2 overall and 2-0 in SoCon play.
The award is Fountain’s second of the season, having garnered it in week two as well.
Also nominated for this week’s award was Elon’s Traci Stewart, College of Charleston’s Cole Dawley, Wofford’s Joanna Suddath, UNC Greensboro’s Branagan Fuller, The Citadel’s Tatum Jestila, Furman’s Alison West, Davidson’s Sarabeth Peele, Chattanooga’s Courtney Barnes and Western Carolina’s Katie Hennessey.
